Eleazar nicknamed “Pido”

Eleazar “Pido” Nacua. Pido was featured in the I-Witness documentary “BITUIN SA DAGAT” aired on GMA7 last September 17, 2012.

Pido lives in Brgy. San Vicente Olango Cebu, where majority of the residents are involved in starfish harvesting. Pido’s father (Mang Elias) is a fisherman. He has 7 children and Pido is the 3rd from the eldest. Because of spending many hours at sea Mang Elias has developed an infection on his legs and he could not walk properly. For this reason, Pido stopped schooling to help his father in diving for starfishes.

The family can gather 50-100 starfishes daily which they sell for only P1.00- 2.00 depending on size. They earn P50.00- 100.00 but it is not enough to feed a family of 7 and support Pido’s education. Pido used to be a consistent honor student but he had to let go of his dreams to work for his family.

In 2013, with a budget of P 15,000.00 courtesy of Cristina and Alfred Cay, a Sari-Sari Store was given to Pido's family as a source of Alternative Livelihood.

Pido Nacua of Olango, Cebu is all grown up and doing very well in school.  He graduated first honor in his High School class! Salamat sa lahat ng donors ni Pido.

Let's continue to  change this boy's life and help Pido achieve his dreams thru Project Malasakit.
