Outreach, Solar Installation and the blessing of the Balay Mangyan

On September 21, 2014, Project Malasakit together with donors brought solar panels to the Mangyan tribe of Mindoro. To make the project more sustainable, we gave them a 3 hour hands-on lecture on solar power. After that, the Mangyans set up the solar power system themselves!

Solar power expert Frederick Epistola taught the Mangyans the wonders of solar energy. This is the first time they've seen a solar powered light bulb and we have successfully provided solar power to 45 homes in a remote community in Mindoro.

It was also the day that the Balay Mangyan health facility was blessed. Constructed like a typical Mangyan house, the health centrer/lying in clinic address the health issues of many mangyans who die because of lack of access to health facilities. Many mothers die along the 4-8 hour trek due to hemorrhage or complications with birth but a lot has changed. Read more at the Balay Mangyan page.
